Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Perfect 10- Oceanside Home in Atlantic Beach, NC has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
