Our top Rental property booking tips:
Get the best rental value:
- To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best rental home:
- To start, have your family choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Pet Friendly, Oceanside Interior Home Private Pool, Golf Cart, and Easy Access. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
