Rental property booking tips:

Get the best rental value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Reel Paradise is a waterfront Condo with a deep water boat slip has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
