How to find the best New Bern rental experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the best vacation rental in the New Bern area:

  • Start by having your group commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Serene beach house facing Bogue Sound & only a 10 minute walk to ocean beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual New Bern beach you crave, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
