Tricks and tips to get the very best New Bern rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Booking your New Bern vacation home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your group select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Shamrock, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
