Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities.
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking your New Bern rental home:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Sound of the Sea West 213 - Almost Oceanfront 1BR, 1BA, complex amenities has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If not, contact the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
