Tips for getting the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Beaufort. To find the best value, consider changing your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area travel guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing the rightrental home:

  • First, have your family decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Nymphe De Mer (Sea Nymph) has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a particular New Bern destination you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
