Tips for getting the best New Bern vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the largest rental within budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing the best rental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Summer Shade - sound and beach access. Newly remodeled and furnished in 2023! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, email the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
During your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
