Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Tip'Sea Turtle, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular New Bern destination you simply love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

Know before you go:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
