Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to reserve a New Bern rental home & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply New Bern area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing and booking the rightvacation home:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Village West #20, Oceanside Townhouse in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
