New Bern rental home tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Start by having your family agree to vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Village West #16, Oceanview Townhouse in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
