Tricks and tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best rental in the New Bern area:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Blue Bungalow, Soundside House in Pine Knoll Shores in NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your group.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
