Getting the best New Bern vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To find the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Dolphin's Run, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
