New Bern rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Emersands, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Advice for a great stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
