Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book a New Bern rental home & When to go:
- Booking in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Finding the perfect rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Ocean Reef 3-A1, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If not, email the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
