Our top New Bern rental home booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Skipper D's at Village West #24, Oceanview Townhouse in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Have a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
