Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- To find the largest rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing a perfect New Bern rental home:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Beautiful private beach house with access to sound has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
