New Bern vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in New Bern. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. 301 on Hancock - One Bedroom Apartment, Sleeps 4 has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

Tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
