How to book the best rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To find the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and picking the right New Bern rental home:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. 5th Floor oceanfront condo with awesome views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's a specific New Bern beach you love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
