Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in Pine Knoll Shores. To get the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. A Paradise Found, Almost Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • At Check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
