Tricks and tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • To book the best vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Beautiful Large Townhome Steps to the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
