Strategies to get the very best New Bern rental experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. AMAZING EMERALD ISLE OCEANFRONT SLEEPS 18 NEAR DINING SHOPPING AQUARIUM! has 8 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
