Tricks and tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the best New Bern rental:

  • Start by having your group decide on the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Spectacular Views! OCEANFRONT 8 BR, 4 BA Duplex has 8 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
