Our top New Bern rental home tips:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. To get the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at New Bern restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. ?? Renovated, family-friendly condo across street from the beach - with pool! ???? has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
