Booking the best vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Beaufort. To book the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose vacation dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Nautical Getaway has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
