Strategies for getting the perfect New Bern vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing your prefectrental:
- Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Pet Friendly Oceanside Townhome in Atlantic Beach, NC-Barefoot Ventures has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
