Tips for getting the perfect rental home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Beachfront Condo with Amazing Views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular New Bern destination you are enamored with, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
