Tips and Tricks to get the optimal New Bern vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • To start, have your family commit to dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Sound Of The Sea East 129, Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's an individual New Bern destination you love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
