Tips for getting the best vacation property experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summer months are high season in Beaufort. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beautiful view of Beaufort, Carrot\/Shackleford Isle, Cape Lookout and Ft. Macon has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Call the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
