Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. BREATHTAKING PANORAMIC BEACHFRONT VIEWS THAT LIVE UP TO ITS NAME . . . CLOUD 9 has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
