Booking the best rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your New Bern vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Captain's Choice: 5 BR, 5.5 BA House in Atlantic Beach, Sleeps 12 has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a specific New Bern beach you love, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
