Our top Emerald Isle rental property booking tips:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite New Bern restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose your dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Cardinal's Landing, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
