Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are high season in New Bern. To find the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and choosing a perfectrental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Cottage Studio 216** has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
