Our top Rental booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Reserve your New Bern vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing your New Bern rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Cute Lil' Condo on Intracoastal waterway with beach access and large pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular New Bern destination you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
