Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing the right New Bern vacation home:

  • Start by having your group choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 1 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, email or call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
