Tips to get the perfect New Bern vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 1 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Tips to have a wonderful stay:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
