Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To book the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect vacation rental in the New Bern area:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Direct oceanfront\/ A Place at the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
