Finding the best New Bern vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try changing your family's New Bern trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing the perfect rental:

  • Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Easy Breezy-Oceanfront 1st floor condo in Fun-Filled Summer Winds Resort! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
