Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Hawk's Nest, Soundside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is right for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
