Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. To find the largest rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick the rightrental:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Just Enough, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
