Booking the best vacation property experience:
Find your best deal:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Keeper's Retreat, Townhouse in Historical Beaufort, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our New Bern rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
