Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Atlantic Beach. Booking your New Bern vacation home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by having your group commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. LARGE SUN PORCH, STEPS AWAY TO BEACH has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual New Bern attraction you simply love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
