Tips and Tricks for getting the best New Bern rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. OCEAN FRONT WITH THE BEST OCEAN VIEWS. \nHEATED POOL & HOT TUB ALL YEAR \n has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular New Bern destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
