**Please be advised that construction is currently underway throughout the entire Summer Winds complex. This includes the replacement of one stairwell in Building A and one stairwell in Building B, with completion expected by the end of May. Sticking to your spending budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.   • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
