Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect rental home:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Family-Friendly! Golf Cart, Large Screened Porch, King Beds, Minutes From Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
