Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. To book the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. NEW RENTAL - Sound & Ocean View Duplex - 2 Blocks from Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. message the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
