Finding the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and picking your prefect New Bern rental:

  • First, have your family agree to a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. A Herd Of Turtles, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your trip.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. message the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
