Our top Vacation rental tips:
Find your best deal:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Atlantic Beach. To get the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose and book the bestvacation home:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. HOT SPRING DEAL! 3 NIGHT MINIMUM STAY IN THIS DELIGHTFUL OCEAN CONDO ! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you crave, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
