Tricks and tips for getting the best rental home experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at New Bern restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing the perfect New Bern vacation home:

  • To start, have your group agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanfront high rise condo, centrally located in Emerald Isle has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
