Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Book your New Bern rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the New Bern area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceans #11, Oceanside Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
