Vacation rental tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the perfect rental home in Pine Knoll Shores:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceans #11, Oceanside Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific New Bern destination you crave, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
