Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect New Bern vacation property experience:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular New Bern attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply New Bern area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Conch Out, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a certain New Bern beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
